Chester's Best Places To Eat

It's becoming more accessible to find places that cater for vegans but Chester is truly seeing the vegan £ rising, with new vegan run independents opening all the time. Here are a few of our favourite city centre places:

Vegan Deva - 2 City Walls

Nestled on the historic walls of Chester, Vegan Deva is a cafe providing coffee, cakes, pannis, smoothies and more. It's a cosy environment with a friendly atmosphere and has great views across the wall. Vegan Deva dedicates a small corner of the cafe to sell a small range of vegan products. It is well priced, with tasty and comforting food - well worth a visit.

Hypha - 5 City Walls

Hypha has a stylish interior setting the the tone for the food, which boasts a seasonal a la carte menu. Hypha is passionate on working with individual local growers to create their seasonal menu with a focus on having small plant-based plates. There Sunday roast is not one to miss.

Verdes Vegan - Indoor Market 6 Princess Street

Right in the heart of Chester, Verdes Vegan is a new addition to Chester, located in the indoor market. They provide 100% plant-based food from healthy to junk, catering for everyone. It offers incredible value and big portions for anyone on a budget.

Dough Dough - 66 to 68 Northgate Street

Whilst not a fully vegan restaurant, they are completely vegetarian but deserved a mention for their incredible vegan options. Dough Dough offers traditional wood fired pizza handcrafted by their Italian chefs. They import most of their ingredients from Italy to provide a truly authentic taste. The menu's vegan options are clearly labelled and a copy of their menu can be downloaded from their website.

Jaunty Goat - 128 Northgate Street

Jaunty Goat has two locations in Chester with their plant-based coffee shop situated in the Nortgate Cathedral Quarter. It hosts a communal space with a menu that's not only seasonal but also has all the brunch classics. This dog friendly establishment is bucking the trend by only accepting card payments due to the animal by-products in notes.

SHURB - 1 to 3 Eastgate Row

SHRUB is a completely vegan and modern eatery in the heart of Chester. Situation up on the historic rows of Chester, this little gem provides inventive food options to accompany their completely vegan cocktails. The outdoor space overlooks the bustling shopping area of Chester whilst maintaining a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.

Tony's Kitchen - 8 Frodsham Street

Sadly Tony's Kitchen is temporarily closed but we couldn't leave this blog without an ode to Tony. A vegan friendly cafe, Tony was a big supporter of Eazy Peazy vegan. Providing home made vegan options, he always went out of his way to ensure you were catered for. While the cafe maybe closed, Tony states on the Facebook page, "We will be back and on the road again soon, watch this space for more details...". We hope there's more to come and wish Tony and his family all the best!

Other Options

Chester also has lots of vegetarian or vegan friendly places to eat, which are either an independent or part of a chain. Finding vegan food whilst out shopping, on a night out or socialising with friends in Chester is so much more easier these days.

We are advocates for supporting local independent businesses. We hope that our short list of independents above, helps you to make the decision to enjoy tasty vegan food by supporting local vegan run businesses.
